Frequency:

The number of cycles or completed alternations per unit time of a sound wave, most often measured in Hertz. Frequencies commonly used in conventional side scan sonar range from 25 to 450 kHz. Although pulse widths and beam angles vary in different sonar and at different frequencies within the same system, generally higher frequencies provide a higher level of resolution with a sacrifice in range.
